Position Summary:
The School of Psychological and Behavioral Sciences at Southern Illinois University Carbondale anticipates an opening for a full-time, 9-month, continuing, tenure-track appointment as Assistant Professor in Counseling Psychology, with expertise in Multicultural or Cross-Cultural Psychology. The position will contribute to SIUC's APA-accredited doctoral program in Counseling Psychology. The appointment begins on August 16, 2021.
We are particularly interested in a faculty member who can serve as a mentor and role model for students in this program that is highly diverse and values social justice.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Teaching responsibilities may include Cross-Cultural Psychology, Psychology of Race and Racism, Psychological Construction of Gender, Psychology of Women, Counseling Skills, and Supervision. We are particularly interested in a faculty member who can serve as a mentor and role model for students in this program that is highly diverse and values social justice. The selected individual will be expected to establish a strong program of peer-reviewed research / scholarship and to provide service to the School, College, University, and discipline as appropriate to academic rank.
Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Psychology from an APA-accredited or CPA-accredited Counseling or Clinical Psychology program with an APA-accredited or CPA-accredited internship. ABD applicants will be considered if all requirements for the Ph.D. will be completed by August 15, 2021. If all requirements for the Ph.D. are not completed by August 15, 2021, a term, non-tenure track appointment may be offered in accordance with University policy (http://policies.siu.edu/personnel_policies/chapter2/ch2-faps/conting.html ).
Areas of scholarly interest and expertise must include cross-cultural/multicultural issues and/or issues surrounding gender identity.
Required qualifications include demonstrated potential for the following: an active, independent research program; effective graduate and undergraduate teaching, practicum supervision, graduate advising, and thesis and dissertation research supervision.
Preferred Qualifications:
Evidence of a strong commitment to scholarship and ability to work effectively in a traditional scientist-practitioner professional psychology (i.e., health service psychologist) program; licensed or license eligible in Illinois.
